In this video, I examine Netanyahu’s 1984 conference and how the term “terrorism” was framed and promoted to broadly apply to Israel’s enemies. I discuss how the conference helped build Western support for Israel’s war against Palestinians, and I explore the role propaganda played in shaping public perception.
I also cover the Lebanese Maronite Christian militia that allied with Israel during the Lebanon conflict and was responsible for the killing of thousands of civilians. The video examines the rationale they used to justify targeting civilians, while contrasting that with how Netanyahu did not apply the label of “terrorism” to their actions, or to the actions of Israel and the United States, despite those actions fitting the same definition presented at the conference.
Overall, the video is an eye-opening look at propaganda, political language, and how definitions of terrorism are selectively applied.
