Can the Synod of Bishops change the church’s teaching on women’s ordination? Fr. Thomas Reese SJ recently said that the synod could certainly do so. Michael Lofton examines the code of canon law on the authority of the synod and then addresses Ordinatio Sacerdotalis on the inability to ordain women to the priesthood. He then addresses the concept of women deaconesses.
